Mr. Asti has used his creative and technical talents over the years to develop a number of initiatives which have local to global significance. Beginning in 1976 he wrote a paper on Industrial Land Use in Landscape Planning which was followed up the next year with a paper/study on the Energy Crisis and the Future of the Strip - Economic and Architectural Alternatives / a contingency plan, (the precursor to his City of the Future). That same year Mr. Asti created the first Community Development Corporation in the US, dedicated to the issue of educating individuals and communities about the development of communications based / third wave sustainable communities; the Architectural Education Corporation for Community Development. And in 1980 Mr. Asti designed the first communications based “Third Wave” City of the Future, PRODIGY. This accomplishment was recognized by the White House Task Force on Private Sector Initiatives in 1982. As a follow up to Prodigy, in 1986 Mr. Asti created a more complex model for the redevelopment of existing communities with emphasis on development of third wave sectors of the economy. This model, CENTENNIAL, is presently being implemented.
In 1989 Mr. Asti developed the ICE industry terminology to describe third wave basic sectors of the economy; and therefore termed by Mr. Asti as the “New ICE Age.” In 1991 Mr. Asti institutionalized the first ICE Commission in the United States, focusing on the development of ICE Industries and third wave jobs, and in 1993 the NETWORKED COMMUNITY © Concept which coordinated with the 1994 concept for a DIGITAL OVERLAY DISTRICT© - a first in the U.S. The follow-up to that concept was the 1995 Digital Product Incentive Act; a State/Local Government Incentive Program for the development, distribution, and investment in digital form product and for the creation of ICE Industry jobs, the first of its type in the United States. The Digital Overlay District© concept is a community development tool designed to help communities in need.
